reliability – do what you say you are going to do, but don’t promise anything unless you are sure you can do it. reliability is very important to me.
honesty – i’m pretty understanding, so if something else is going on and you can’t get something done, or if it’s too much work, or the deadline is too tight, or really anything, just tell me. it will save us both a lot of time and energy if we can get to the root of things and talk it out.
try your best – i know very well that not every project can be a grand slam, so never be afraid to just show me what you have in whatever state it’s in and we’ll make the most of that progress together.
punctuality – similar to reliability, just do your best to be on time for meetings, invoice turn-ins, and other deadlines. being a few minutes late is not a big deal. just let me know in advance if you can’t make something. nobody likes being ghosted on a meeting.
ask – if you don’t know how to do something, just let me know and i’ll either show you how or we’ll figure it out together. technology changes quickly, and processes along with it. and the business part of design is kinda mysterious as well – talking to clients and vendors, filling out your invoice to me, etc. a big part of this experience is learning professional processes, so it’s all good if you don’t know how to do something.
right now, i am able to pay the agreed-upon $15/hr for up to six hours a week. there is a spring, summer, and fall term. the start / stop points are aligned with the school year and are as follows:
1 week off before spring semester starts [jan]
1 week off for spring break [march]
1 week off for spring finals [may]
1 week off before fall semester starts [august]
1 week off for fall finals [december]
2 weeks for winter break [december]
note: the december break ends up being fairly long, with finals week + 2 weeks of winter break + 1 week before spring semester
i will provide a sample invoice that the kcai business office likes to use [ugly as hell], that you should customize with all of your personal info. bill every two or four weeks, as you prefer, and send the invoice to me. i will forward it along and kcai will mail you a check.
of course just email me if you think of anything we need to go over!
