the new programme is a design studio focused on facilitating community-based social change through both client-initiated and designer-initiated work. we design progressive, effective, and affordable communications and experiences and are looking for a collaborator to expand our design capacity – to assist in a range of projects, research, and the creation of new self-initiated work. current work includes, but is not limited to:
continued work toward the decolonize punk ongoing instagram project
occasional design projects for long-term clients – two labor-focused non-profit organizations
a project in development for a statewide political initiative
research into the latin alphabet including letterform legibility factors, formal inconsistencies [A and a, for example], and the use of capitals vs lowercase, to radically re-think our alphabet for the benefit of all
typeface design; specifically prototyping various letterform designs based on models developed from the above research
college student [working toward a graphic design or related degree] or recent graduate
strong fundamental knowledge of graphic design principles – composition, typography [and love for type!], type/image relationships, and the design process in general
ability to clearly articulate rationale driving design work
strong curiosity and interest in research
basic working knowledge of indesign, illustrator, photoshop
proactive attitude toward work and reliability – you do what you say you will do
strong ability to follow-through / finish work
personal investment in social / political / community-oriented design work
ability to reliably invest up to 5 hours a week in the work; hours may vary depending on project cycles
commit to a consistent weekly meeting time, sometimes in-person, sometimes remote
own your own computer / laptop
kansas city metro location; a fully remote position could be considered for the right person
knowledge of aftereffects
knowledge of glyphs
knowledge of, or interest in, radical / left-leaning politics and ideas
$15 / hour at 3–5 hours / week
